Custom 404 page

I added a custom 404 page to the site. I think it's cool when website creators spend a little extra time to make something unique for 404 pages. I quickly made this crappy drawing (pun intended) to go on the 404 page. Go ahead and check out the 404 page in action http://www.artdojo.com/asdf

Launched

Launched the new ArtDojo today. Already fixed a couple bugs and started a list of coming features on userecho which can be found by clicking the "Feedback" link at the right of the site.

I guess I will try to spam a couple forums about it. Yes, I have no pride.

The BIG BANG

ArtDojo has went through a lot of designs and ideas through the years.

Over the past month I have been working on a new site. Artdojo is going to be
  • A tool for keeping track of your favorite artwork from around the web
  • A promoter of cool artists around the web
  • A social image bookmarking site for artwork
The first two objectives are things I have always struggled with accomplishing through the site. After coming across ffffound a few months ago and other social image bookmarking sites, the lightbulb finally clicked. ArtDojo could be a social image bookmarking site strictly for art. The best art will float to the top and the site will be a great tool for people to keep track of cool art and find cool art.

I looked around for a website that did this before concluding that I would have to do it myself. Ffffound, vi.sualize.us, etc. are social image bookmarking sites geared toward photography and design. Deviantart.com, conceptart.org, cghub.com, etc. are great community art sites, but they are closed communities. By that, I mean you can't see what art is being posted at the other communities or any number of artist's personal websites or blogs. Deviantart is a big community, but the internet is bigger.

I hope the 20 or so people that follow ArtDojo at the moment will be willing to jump on when the new site launches. I can't wait to launch it, but the progress has been slow as I am building it on Django and Python, which I have never used before. Obviously it will take more than 20 people for the site be successful at promoting artists from around the web, but I will use it even if I am the only one to keep track of my personal favorites. I hope you will join me and provide feedback on how I can make it better.
